Bio
Dr. Joseph Koen is a board-certified neurosurgeon. He earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his neurosurgical residency at Duke University Medical Center. Koen serves as Director of Neurosurgery at Chesapeake Regional Neurosciences, where he specializes in benign and malignant brain tumors, skull-based approaches, and minimally invasive spinal surgery. He has advanced training in CyberKnife and Varian TrueBeam stereotactic radiosurgery. Koen was the first surgeon in Hampton Roads to perform minimally invasive spine surgery and often consults on emerging technologies in spine and brain surgery, both nationally and internationally. He enjoys teaching students at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
