First in Hampton Roads: Chesapeake Regional Achieves Double ASHP Accreditation

CHESAPEAKE, Va. –  Both the Pharmacy Technician Training Program and the Pharmacy Residency Program at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center have earned accreditation from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Accreditation signifies that the programs meet the rigorous standards set by ASHP for education and training.  Chesapeake Regional is the first hospital in Hampton Roads to achieve double program accreditation.

“We are thrilled to obtain double ASHP accreditation, which underscores Chesapeake Regional’s commitment to delivering high-quality education and training for future pharmacists and pharmacy technicians,” said Amber Egyud, DNP, RN, NE-BC, FAONL, Chief Operations and Nursing Officer at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. “Additionally, this recognition highlights our proactive efforts to help address the nationwide shortage of pharmacy technicians.”

Both programs aim to prepare students for various pharmacy roles, including hospitals, community pharmacies, and health care facilities, and have achieved a 100% graduate placement rate. ASHP accreditation signifies excellence in pharmacy education, indicating that the programs offer a well-rounded curriculum. The accreditation process includes a detailed review of the curriculum, faculty credentials, resources, and student support services.

“This accomplishment was made possible through the dedication of many, including our Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, Anola Osouna-Neverson, CPhT, who led the technician program accreditation process,” said Yao Hua Lin, Director of Pharmacy at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. “It also reflects the valuable experience gained from our longstanding partnership with the Chesapeake Career Center Pharmacy Technician Training Program.”

Graduates of ASHP-accredited programs are prepared to further enhance their career opportunities. These accreditations also help assure employers that graduates have the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute effectively to the health care team.
