Pulmonology

Prompt Diagnosis can Lead to a Better Outcome

If your screening returns an abnormal result, you may be seen in our lung nodule clinic. Your case will be reviewed, and further diagnostic or treatment options will be recommended to determine if the nodule is benign or malignant.

These include:

  • Arterial Blood Gas (ABG)
  • Pulmonary Function Test
  • Pulmonary Rehab
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Endobronchial Ultrasound
  • Bronchial Thermoplasty
  • Navigational Bronchoscopy

Arterial Blood Gas

An Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) is a blood test that measures the acidity of blood directly from an artery. It also measures the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide present to check how well the lungs are able to move oxygen and remove carbon dioxide.

Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy allows visualization of the airways and sampling of mucus or tissue from the lungs. Bronchoscopy helps diagnosing cancer and infections.

Endobronchial Ultrasound

Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) is an advanced bronchoscopy using a camera with an ultrasound tip to scan the area just outside the airways. EBUS allows biopsies from lymph nodes and masses which helps diagnosing and staging lung cancer and other diseases without need for invasive surgery.

Bronchial Thermoplasty

Bronchial Thermoplasty (BT) is an outpatient procedure delivered by the AlairTM System that uses mild heat to reduce the amount of excess airway and smooth muscle tissue in the airways. BT is an add-on therapy to a patient’s current asthma medications, providing long-lasting benefits for patients, including a decrease in asthma attacks, fewer emergency room visits and improved asthma-related quality of life.

Zephyr® Valve Procedure

This minimally invasive procedure allows emphysema sufferers to breathe easier and be more active and energetic without having major surgery.

The valves are placed during a simple bronchoscophy that requires no incisions. They are placed in the airways to keep air from getting trapped which allows the healthiest parts of the lung to expand and take in more air, providing patients with an improved quality of life and many other benefits.
