Governor’s School for the Arts brings ‘Innovative for Life’ Exhibit to Jennings Outpatient Center

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – The winners of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare’s first-ever art exhibit, a collaboration with The Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) visual arts students, were announced during a reception held  Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Jennings Outpatient Center (JOC), 844 Battlefield Blvd., North in Chesapeake. 

“I am extremely impressed with the thought that went into these designs and the quality work these young artists have created,” said Kim Whitaker, Director of JOC. “This display will add visual interest to our lobby, entertain patients, and honor local artists.”

Best of show went to Isabella Schetzel, a GSA freshman, for her acrylic titled, The Petals of Life. Second place winner was Aya Zejjari, a sophomore, for an acrylic titled Cycle of Love and freshman Payton Sayre received third place honors for a digital piece titled Harmony. Students received certificates and cash prizes for their art. 

Chesapeake Regional Healthcare sent a proposal to the GSA earlier this fall requesting student artists submit designs using Chesapeake Regional’s new tagline, ‘Innovative for Life.’ The exhibit will be on display through Jan. 15, 2023, for patients and staff to enjoy.

Over 25 high school aged students submitted art in the competition. Winners were selected by a hospital committee of staff and administrators who judged for innovation of design and the written statement describing what the art. Some of the work will be available for purchase after the exhibit concludes in January.
