Dominion Energy Awards $150,000 to Chesapeake Regional Healthcare to Support Veterans in Crisis

CHESAPEAKE, Va. –  Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation (CRHF), created to help further the Chesapeake Regional Healthcare mission, to improve the health and well-being of the communities served, announced today that Dominion Energy has awarded it a $150,000 grant to support veterans in crisis by donating the lead gift for behavioral health initiatives at the hospital.

Since 2018, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center has seen a 25% growth in volume from the military community, based on Virginia Tricare encounters. Nearly 20% of those encounters result in behavioral health diagnosis.

“Chesapeake Regional is committed to supporting local veterans and their families,” said Reese Jackson, president & CEO of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. “This partnership will help us deliver much needed behavioral health services to area veterans who find themselves in crisis after serving our country.” 

The collaboration demonstrates a shared interest in area veterans. The grant will provide behavioral health support for veterans and civilians by funding outpatient therapy programs and adaptations to the emergency room. Together, these enhanced services will positively impact those who find themselves in crisis.

Chesapeake Regional participates in several veteran related initiatives and employs a growing workforce of active duty, reserve and retired military personnel. It’s hospital, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, is located adjacent to veteran housing, and soon will host a new Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic on its campus.
