Dr Ruiz is amazing. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to get through to schedule appointments. I always have to leave a message and I left multiple ones over a period of a few months and never received a call back. Only when my mom called did she get a call back a few days later. It's tough when you are already nervous about what's happening to feel like the scheduling staff doesn't care enough to return your call(s).

The provider is very good. Im relatively new to this practice and have issues with communication with other staff. Sometimes I have appointments that I don't understand. I have had a stroke several years ago so that may contribute to some of my concerns. I had an appointment for prescreening for surgery. I didn't quite understand. Also when I asked the nurse navigator if she could see my notes from the pre surgical screening, it appears to me that it was not easily to access and when she did it contained inaccurate information.

The 50 min. Wait in the examine room was solely due to the radiology dept. Who did not forward the mammogram results in a timely manner. The mammogram was at 8:30 given the 20 min.wait for the film to be reviewed I was in Dr Ruiz's exam room by 9:40 a.m. Dr. Ruis appointment was based on the mammogram results so he had to wait for them.

Bio
A native to southeastern Virginia, Dr. Ruiz attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. He received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk and completed a general surgery residency at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke and the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Ruiz is the medical director of The Breast Center at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. He is board certified in stereotactic breast procedures and general surgery and is certified in stereotactic and ultrasound-guided breast biopsies. Dr. Ruiz participates in registry trials by Targeted Medical Education, an elite group of community-based breast cancer physicians dedicated to identifying genuine advances in the breast cancer field including percutaneous lumpectomies. He a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
