Chesapeake Regional Receives Second National Award for Cancer Care
Chesapeake Regional Medical Center (CRMC) recently earned a 2015 Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Cancer Care for a successive year.
CRMC is among an elite group of 331 hospitals who have earned the 2015 Women’s Choice Award by meeting the highest cancer care accreditation standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, exemplifying excellence in clinical performance with regard to patient safety measures and for obtaining a high recommendation rate, a measure that is very important to women in choosing a hospital.
“The level of personalized care and compassion provided by the physicians and staff of our Sidney M. Oman Cancer Treatment Center is unsurpassable,” said Peter F. Bastone, Dr.PH, president and CEO of CRMC. “We work diligently to ensure the best and most advanced treatments are available to our patients, and we are honored to receive this award for a second consecutive year.”
The Women’s Choice Award signifies CRMC’s commitment and passion for an extraordinary health care experience for women and those who benefit from their choices. By carrying the Women’s Choice Award seal, CRMC has joined a network of hospitals committed to a global mission to empower women to make smart health care choices.
In a recent study by Talent Innovation, it has been found that women are tasked with making 94 percent of all health care decisions, yet they lack trust in their health care system. While the overall odds are that two out of three women will never get cancer, over 800,000 women were diagnosed with cancer in 2014. The most common cancers for women include breast, lung and colorectal cancer (Everyday Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015).
“Now more than ever, the Women’s Choice Award seal serves as a validation to women that they are selecting the best hospitals for their own care and that of their family,” said Sharyn S. Lee, RN, MS, FACEHP, president of the Women’s Choice Healthcare Division.
Studies have shown that each patient who is dissatisfied will inform up to ten other people of this dissatisfaction (Health Administration Press). This evidence further exemplifies the importance of hospitals keeping as many people satisfied with their care as possible.
“Women have many choices when it comes to cancer care, but now they can make informed choices based on rigorous evidence-based criteria. As a cancer survivor who faced a challenging journey to recovery, I wish I had the Women’s Choice Award as a resource to spare me unnecessary fret and error,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award. “When faced with cancer, you owe it to yourself and your family to get the best treatment.”
