Overview
The Chesapeake General Hospital Auxiliary was developed with hard-working hands and spirited hearts. Each member is dedicated to serving as a valuable resource to the hospital and as an ambassador in the community. It all began in September 1974 when a group of determined women had a mission: to selflessly provide their services to Chesapeake General Hospital and its patients and to promote health and wellness to the community.
Today, the Hospital Auxiliary has grown with the hospital and its presence is seen through a variety of community events, as well as through the purchase of special medical equipment in several hospital departments.
Holiday Donations
Light the World for Someone You Love
Chesapeake General Hospital Auxiliary invites you to honor or remember a loved one with a tree light or star light on the hospital’s holiday tree. Located at the main entrance, the tree will be decorated with hundreds of lights generously funded by the community, and will shine brightly throughout the holiday season.
A card will be sent to the person you wish to honor to let them know that you have purchased a light. If you
purchase a light in memory of someone who has passed away, a card will be sent to the person you designate
to let them know of the memorial tribute. You will also receive an acknowledgment of your donation.
Proceeds will continue to fund the Auxiliary’s scholarship program for students entering the health care field.
Thank you for your support.
Membership
It takes a special type of person to be a member. It takes someone who believes in the mission of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. It takes someone who is willing to give time and resources to help provide quality care to the community. It takes someone who can look beyond today and envision the kind of medical care future generations need and work toward helping the hospital meet those needs.
Membership is open to anyone who is interested in continuing the mission of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. You may contribute as much time as you wish. There are no limitations. Modest annual dues are collected no later than August 1. A membership directory listing all members, elected officers and their positions is distributed each year.
General membership meetings are held quarterly (September, December, March and May). The installation of new Hospital Auxiliary officers is in June. The governing board meets the first Monday of each month, from September through June. A quarterly newsletter is distributed to the membership to keep them up to date on the latest Hospital Auxiliary issues.
Call 757-312-6109 if you're interested in joining.
Gift Shop
The 'Peake Boutique is operated by the Hospital Auxiliary and is staffed by volunteers. All proceeds are deposited into the Auxiliary Fund, which is used to purchase new medical equipment or support special hospital projects.
Scholarship Fund
The Holiday “Light the World” project contributes to the scholarship fund for Chesapeake students who are interested in the medical profession. The donations received for each sponsored holiday tree light make up the scholarships, which are awarded by the Hospital Auxiliary each year. There is a scholarship offered through the Barbara O. Hodge Endowment Fund. Barbara was a Life Member of the Hospital Auxiliary.
Service Projects
As with any special event or project, the Auxiliary’s effectiveness goes hand-in-hand with the interests of the community. But the goal of the Hospital Auxiliary service projects remains the same: to provide as much financial support for the hospital as possible. There are several ongoing Hospital Auxiliary events and projects that are successful year after year. Examples of such projects include the Hospital Gift Shop, quarterly vendor sales in the lobby and the Memorial Fund. Additionally, the Hospital Auxiliary is a major sponsor of the Chesapeake Health Foundation's Bra-ha-ha® event and annual fundraising Gala.
Through these types of projects, the Hospital Auxiliary has contributed to renovating nursing units, updating the Lifestyle Health & Fitness Center classrooms and renovating the main lobby. The Hospital Auxiliary has purchased medical equipment for many departments, including pulmonary function testing, mammography, peripheral vascular lab, echocardiogram units, ultrasound machines, ventilators, fetal monitors and transport incubators. Each service project sponsored by the Hospital Auxiliary provides much needed equipment and literally saves thousands of dollars for the hospital.
