Surgery Center in Virginia Beach is First Freestanding ASC in Virginia to Conduct Same Day Robotic Radical Prostatectomy Utilizing da VINCI® SI™ Surgical System

Virginia Beach, Va. — Chesapeake Regional Surgery Center at Virginia Beach, LLC, is the first freestanding ambulatory surgical center (ASC) in Virginia to perform a minimally invasive, outpatient radical prostatectomy, using the da Vinci Si robotic surgical system.

Located at 229 Clearfield Avenue in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the Chesapeake Regional Surgery Center at Virginia Beach is a freestanding ASC, providing patients access to high quality, low cost outpatient surgical care without requiring a hospital stay.

The robotic radical prostatectomy, a surgery to remove the entire prostate and some of the tissue around it to treat prostate cancer, took approximately three hours and was performed by Michael Fabrizio, MD, FACS. Dr. Fabrizio and his partners have been doing robotic surgeries in the Hampton Roads region for nearly 20 years. Their practice, Urology of Virginia, will be celebrating its 100-year anniversary in 2022.

Patients who require a radical prostatectomy to treat prostate cancer can benefit from the da Vinci Si surgical system in several ways. After surgery, patients not only return home the same day, but they also experience a quicker recovery, less pain, and improved mobility.

“Our patient had the initiative and trust to have this procedure in the freestanding ASC.  The surgical and anesthesia team, as well as our nurses, operating room techs and our surgical assistant were exceptional,” Dr. Fabrizio stated. “We also wish to thank our partners at Urology of Virginia, led by our President and CEO, Dr. Jennifer Miles-Thomas and CMO, Dr. Jessica DeLong, for their support and innovation as well as Chesapeake Regional Healthcare for their vision in creating a true joint venture urological and neurosurgical ASC.”

The Chesapeake Regional Surgery Center at Virginia Beach is one of two Chesapeake Regional ASCs. Patients coming to the Chesapeake Regional Surgery Center at Virginia Beach experience a commitment to the highest quality of care in a comfortable, convenient environment.
