Breast Ultrasound

This diagnostic imaging technology uses ultrasound, also called sonography, to scan the breast. An ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging technology that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of structures within the breast.

Patients who are told by their health care providers that they have dense breast tissue should continue to receive annual 3D mammograms. However, their providers may also recommend an annual ultrasound that provides radiologists with a much more detailed view of breast tissue, increasing the likelihood of early detection. These images are then saved alongside the mammogram images and are easily reproducible at subsequent visits, allowing radiologists to compare images side by side to identify any changes that may occur.
