Bra-ha-ha 5K: Record Number Brave the Rain to Race for Breast Cancer Awareness

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – This morning the Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation hosted its annual Bra-ha-ha® 5K Run/Walk on Chesapeake Regional’s North Battlefield Blvd. campus. A record number, more than 800 runners and walkers, registered for this year’s race, part of the Foundation’s annual Bra-ha-ha campaign. Despite the rain, 629 survivors, seniors, supporters and children enjoyed today’s 5K course, along with a variety of vendors. Everyone who registered received a race T-shirt, medal and swag bag.

All net proceeds will provide screening mammograms and breast health services for uninsured and underinsured community members in Hampton Roads, as well as advanced technology at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. Blue Ridge Bank was the event’s presenting sponsor.

First-place trophies were awarded to: 
•    Men’s and overall winner –Victor Flemming of Smithfield
•    Women’s winner – Ashleigh Kennedy of Smithfield
•    12 & under winner – Brennan Marek of Chesapeake

Free mammograms are offered year-round to those who qualify. Please call 757-312-6536 to make an appointment.

The Bra-ha-ha Awards Show & Auction, an annual bra decorating contest, will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, 2023, from 6-9 p.m., at the Delta Hotels by Marriott, 725 Woodlake Drive, in Chesapeake.

Anyone can enter a bra – groups, businesses, or individuals. Bra-makers are encouraged to design a work of art that tells a story, shares an inspiration, or simply shows creativity. Registration is open through Friday, Sept. 13.
