Chesapeake Regional’s Mobile Mammography Unit will have a new look!

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Chesapeake Regional Healthcare’s 3D Mobile Mammography Unit is getting a new look. Its exterior is being refreshed and will be revealed at the Chesapeake Rotary’s Christmas Parade this Saturday, December 7, 2024. The bold new look is a vibrant pink and features a pink ribbon for breast cancer awareness.

The 40-foot mobile mammography unit first debuted in 2016. Since then, it has logged over 55,000 miles traveling to communities, businesses, and events throughout the region while offering convenient appointments in a comfortable and discreet space. The bus hosts an average of 2,000 patient appointments each year to meet women where they are and remove barriers to annual screening mammograms.

The old exterior took two days to remove, and another two days were spent rewrapping the bus. First, the new design adheres with 3M IJ180Cv3, and then a layer of 3M 8518 gloss overlaminate is added. AG Wraps is working on the project this week at its headquarters in Chesapeake.

Chesapeake Regional was the first health system in Hampton Roads to offer 3D mammograms on a motorized unit. The bus was purchased with funds raised by the Chesapeake Rotary Club, the Chesapeake Regional Auxiliary, and the Bra-ha-ha®.

Funds raised through the annual Bra-ha-ha campaign help provide mammograms and related breast health services to eligible, uninsured and under-insured community members. On average, the mobile unit serves 20 uninsured patients monthly using BHH funds. Free mammograms are available year-round to those who qualify. Those interested should call 757-312-6536 to make an appointment.

The mobile mammography unit is available for customized screening days at businesses, churches, community centers, and organizations. To schedule a screening day or book an individual appointment on public screening days, visit Chesapeake Regional’s website to learn more.
