Chesapeake Regional Distributes Free Diapers to Hundreds
CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Hundreds of Hampton Roads parents have free diapers to enjoy this month thanks to the combined efforts of Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. The Diaper Distribution held today on the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center campus was a huge success.
The crowd of parents, grandparents, babies and toddlers began arriving at 6 a.m. hoping to leave with a month’s supply of free diapers. A line wrapped around the Lifestyle Health & Fitness Center before the event began, and the first boxes were given out just before 9 a.m. in a tent behind the building. Almost 700 boxes of diapers were distributed to families this morning.
Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation partnered with EveryLife Diapers to purchase six pallets of diapers, sizes 1-6. The Chesapeake Fire Department also donated 300 boxes of Pampers diapers. “We are excited about the impact these diapers will have on families in our community,” said Elisa Wills, Chief Development Officer at Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation. “We want to ease some of their financial burden so they can buy other necessities.”
“After the success of our diaper drive in December, a partnership with Fatherhood Foundation, we knew there was a need for another event to help Hampton Roads families,” said Shannon Roberts, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. “We’re so happy to be able to give back to our community and put a little money back in the pockets of families in need—we hope to make this an annual event.”
Representatives from several community organizations were on site during the Diaper Distribution to offer information and resources: Healthy Chesapeake, Children's Health Investment Program (CHIP) of South Hampton Roads, the Foodbank, and Baby Care.
