Truist Awards $100,000 Grant to Support Continuing Care for Chesapeake Regional Healthcare Patients in Need

CHESAPEAKE, Va. –  Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation (CRHF), created to help further the Chesapeake Regional Healthcare (CRH) mission, to improve the health and well-being of the communities served, announced today that Truist Financial Corporation through its Truist Charitable Fund, a donor-advised fund at The Winston-Salem Foundation,  has awarded it a $100,000 grant to support low- to moderate-income patients after their hospital stay.

Many patients and their families find themselves in need of resources such as clothing, food and other items after they leave the hospital. This grant will help to ensure the health and post-care support of low to moderate income families as they transition home after their stay.

“When patients receive items that support their recovery, they have the opportunity to heal faster and more thoroughly. This grant will provide greater health and better outcomes for our patients and families in need,” said Reese Jackson, president & CEO of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. “We share a similar mission with Truist and are grateful that this partnership will improve the health of our shared community.”

CRH regularly offers clothes to indigent patients as they leave the hospital and provides car seats and care packages for new parents leaving the hospital with their infants. A food pantry for oncology patients helps meet nutritional needs during treatment. The hospital also creates care packages for families while their loved one is in the hospital and after their stay.

“In many cases, the need for care doesn’t end when someone leaves a hospital, and this grant will help provide patients resources to support their ongoing recovery,” said Thomas Ransom, Virginia regional president for Truist. “Helping CRH improve patient well-being and assist families throughout Hampton Roads is another way Truist demonstrates its purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities.”

Nurses, case workers, social workers, and patient navigators working with patients will help identify opportunities where support is needed. The grant will allow CRHF to provide patients with food gift cards, transportation passes, infant nutrition and more, ensuring that their immediate health and wellness needs are met.
