Hospital staff receives cinnamon buns as thanks for sister’s excellent care

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Twin sisters, one of whom owns a bakery across the street from Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, brought 300 cinnamon buns to the hospital’s clinical staff this morning to thank them for caring for their older sister who lost her battle with cancer in May.

Brenda Harford, owner of Whole-ly Rollers Bakery on Battlefield Blvd., and her sister Linda Thompson were impressed by the care Chesapeake Regional’s staff provided. They also appreciated that baked goods were supplied for patients during chemotherapy. Together, the sisters decided to repay that kindness and thoughtfulness by supplying the hospital staff with delicious homemade cinnamon buns.

Thompson said, “The staff was so nice—they gave our sister Robin the utmost respect and were so kind, courteous and caring. We wanted to let them know how grateful we were for the excellent care they gave her.”

“Our staff has worked so hard during the past couple of years, and they continue to provide patients with compassionate care. An opportunity to recognize them for the wonderful work they do is a pleasure,” said Reese Jackson, President and CEO of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. “When I first talked with the sisters and realized they wanted to thank our hospital staff in such a grand way, I was delighted to begin planning.”

The sweet treats went to clinical staff in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center’s emergency department, inpatient cancer unit, outpatient cancer center, and to the Virginia Oncology Associates staff located on the second floor of Chesapeake Regional’s Priority Toyota Cancer Center.
