Chesapeake Regional Opens State-of-the-Art Critical Care Tower
CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Nearly three years after breaking ground to expand and renovate its medical center campus, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare is holding a dedication and blessing ceremony for its new Intensive Care Unit, located inside Chesapeake Regional Medical Center’s Richard S. Bray Critical Care Tower on the North Battlefield Boulevard campus. Invited guests only, including local dignitaries, campaign donors, are invited to attend the ceremony on Tuesday evening, Oct. 4.
The blessing will take place at 6 p.m., and tours of the new facility will be available before the ceremony. Those who attend may use free valet parking at the hospital’s main entrance and gather in the main lobby where guides will bring them up to the Critical Care Tower.
“This Critical Care Tower is a monumental accomplishment in our Master Facility Expansion project,” said Reese Jackson, President & CEO of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. “The new tower adds approximately 72,000 square feet of space above the existing structure and signifies the beginning of a new era of care at Chesapeake Regional.”
The Richard S. Bray Critical Care Tower holds 30 Intensive Care beds and has been created with help from clinicians to optimize workflow. Additionally, a pleasing aesthetic design incorporates state-of-the-art technology to help nurses and physicians deliver exceptional patient care. Expanded services inside the Critical Care Tower include cardiac diagnostic space and increased surgical capabilities.
The next project in Chesapeake Regional Healthcare’s Master Facilities Expansion project will be postpartum Mother-Baby rooms. They will be renovated and expanded to one and a half times their current size. The soon-to-begin upgrade will bring new mothers and families a spa-like atmosphere and family centered care with natural healing elements. The completion date is expected in Fall of 2023.
Another major renovation, also part of the expansion, is the Priority Toyota Cancer Center, offering the community a comprehensive array of cancer care treatments and services. It was completed in October 2021.
The hospital opened in 1976 after a grassroots effort by local citizens to establish a hospital close to home. Governed by the Chesapeake Hospital Authority (CHA), Chesapeake Regional is investing $135 million into hospital renovations which began January of 2020.
