The Bra-Ha-Ha® Debuts in Elizabeth City with a Capacity Crowd!

ELIZABETH CITY, NC—Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, along with the Elizabeth City Chamber of Commerce, hosted the first ever Bra-ha-ha at Elizabeth City on Sept. 17, 2022. The Seriously Uplifting Experience was held from 3-5 pm, at Seven Sounds Brewing, 112 North Water Street, Elizabeth City, NC.

All winners were chosen by local judges, including Reese Jackson, President & CEO of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. “We are so happy to share such a beloved event with the residents of Elizabeth City,” he said. “The community has embraced this event and I can assure you that all proceeds will stay in Elizabeth City and benefit our patients here.”

The Bra-ha-ha® Awards Show & Auction began in Chesapeake, in 2008. During the past 15 years, nearly $2 million has been raised to fund free mammograms and related breast health services to eligible community members, and advanced technology at Chesapeake Regional Breast Care.

Each bra entered in the Bra-ha-ha at Elizabeth City was judged for Most Creative, Best Craftsmanship, Most Inspirational, The E. City Bra Designer of the Year, and People’s Choice Award (voting tickets were available for purchase at the event).

With a 38-C bra as their canvas, interested community members are challenged to construct unique and over-the-top designs using breast cancer as inspiration. These humorous and heartwarming masterpieces feature bra art created to raise awareness of breast cancer, to honor those who have won their fight, and to remember those who lost their battle.

Winners this year were:

  • Best Craftsmanship: ‘Living your Best Life’ designed by A to Z Cleaning
  • Most Creative: ‘Harbor of Hospitality’ designed by Debi Mesa
  • Most Inspirational: ‘Tree of Life’ designed by Zacki Twiford
  • Elizabeth City Bra Designer of the Year: ‘Forget Me Knot’ designed by Waterbrooke of Elizabeth City
  • People’s Choice: ‘Hops for Tops’ designed by Seven Sounds Brewing Company
