Reese Jackson, President & CEO, Awarded 2022 First Citizen of Chesapeake
CHESAPEAKE, Va. –Reese Jackson, President & CEO of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, was honored last night as the 2022 First Citizen of Chesapeake. The Chesapeake First Citizen Award is presented annually to an outstanding individual who best exemplifies the spirit of citizenship and who has shown significant leadership in enhancing the quality of life in our city.
During his tenure at Chesapeake Regional, Reese has worked to improve health care in the Hampton Roads region through numerous projects and initiatives, including the construction of our new Richard S. Bray Critical Care Tower, renovation and expansion of the Priority Toyota Cancer Center, a four-star rating from CMS, COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics in our community and much more.
Jackson said, “Staying well-informed, volunteering, investing in the community, and having the courage and self-discipline to do the right thing are necessary to be a good citizen. Actions speak louder than words; apathy or indifference is a lazy path.” When asked about leadership, he believes, “Leaders must be authentic and vested in their organization’s success. Strong interpersonal skills, financial acumen, a caring heart and thinking ahead while ‘being’ present are all important leadership qualities. Leaders need to provide direction so that there is unity in purpose. Set the pace and create an esprit de corps without judging, blaming or micro-managing so that others can lead.”
The selection committee, comprised of former First Citizens in Chesapeake strives to select an individual who has adhered to the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.” The First Citizen Award recognition is a celebration of volunteerism and the extra effort that is made for individuals outside of their profession to make Chesapeake and the Hampton Roads region a better place to live and work.
