Physician to Discuss Hysterectomies at Free Women's Seminar

CHESAPEAKE – Lani Warren, M.D., a board-certified, Chesapeake Regional-affiliated obstetrician and gynecologist who practices with Bayview Physicians Group, Chesapeake Obstetrics and Gynecology, will discuss hysterectomies at the next Red Hot Mamas® Hampton Roads Chapter seminar. The presentation is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26, from 6-8 p.m. at the Lifestyle Center, located on the Chesapeake Regional campus.

A hysterectomy is a procedure that removes a woman’s uterus, thus ending her ability to give birth. At times, the ovaries may be removed with the uterus, resulting in the onset of menopause. Warren will discuss the reasons hysterectomies are performed and the possible effects of the surgery. She will also speak about alternative treatments and procedures that are now available.

“Years ago, hysterectomies were the only procedure to treat fibroids, uncontrolled bleeding and other severe issues of the uterus. Now, new medicines and surgical techniques may help treat these conditions,” said Warren. “Women can try alternative options like hormone replacement and outpatient surgical procedures before committing to a hysterectomy.”

Warren received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School, in Minneapolis, Minn., and completed her residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, Calif. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

Chesapeake Regional has partnered with the Red Hot Mamas® to offer monthly menopause education programs aimed at providing medical information and peer support to women, men and family members dealing with the physical and psychological impacts of menopause.

The free seminars, which cover topics throughout the year that deal with the full body, are held monthly at the Lifestyle Center, located at 800 Battlefield Boulevard, North, in Chesapeake.

All women and their partners are invited to attend the seminars. To RSVP, call 757-312-5144.
