New Priority Toyota Cancer Center Brings Comprehensive Cancer Care to Chesapeake

Donations from Dennis Ellmer, President & CEO of Priority Automotive and Toyota USA allow Chesapeake Regional to offer cancer patients advanced treatment options

CHESAPEAKE, Va.– With a grand opening held Tuesday night, September 21, 2021, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare has officially opened the doors to the Priority Toyota Cancer Center. The newly completed center brings advanced treatment options and exceptional care teams to support patients in southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina.

Of his support for the new cancer center, Ellmer said, "This is an amazing opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of the people of Chesapeake and the entire region. Cancer is personal to me; I lost both parents to cancer and have many friends who have fought the disease. Many are here today because of excellent treatment. Now, that excellent treatment is available right here, in our own backyard. I am honored to be a part of this.”

Built as an extension of the former Sidney M. Oman Cancer Treatment Center, at 744 Battlefield, Blvd., North, the Priority Toyota Cancer Center is part of Chesapeake Regional’s $135 million expansion project. The 12,000 square feet of additional space features several new and expanded services while also paying respect to the Oman legacy.

“The Priority Toyota Cancer Center represents state-of-the-art cancer care close to home for area residents. With access to new technology and lifesaving services, our cancer patients, survivors and families will be able to better navigate their cancer journey,” said Reese Jackson, President & CEO of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare.

Generous gifts from Dennis Ellmer, President & CEO of Priority Automotive, Toyota USA, and other donors, and cooperative ventures with Riverside Health System, the University of Virginia Health System, Virginia Oncology Associates and Dominion Radiology Associates have allowed Chesapeake Regional to offer the following comprehensive cancer care services under one roof:
•    Varian Edge Stereotactic Radiosurgery
•    PET CT
•    Virginia Oncology Associates clinical practice
•    On-site Breast, Lung and Colon Cancer Navigators
•    Outpatient Palliative Care
•    Certified Oncology Therapists
•    Certified Lymphedema Therapists
•    Immersive Virtual Reality

Chesapeake Regional has the only clinic in Hampton Roads with an Oncology Rehabilitation clinical practice with three certified Lymphedema Therapists and two certified Oncology Therapists.

“The new technology at Chesapeake Regional is the best available, anywhere in the country,” according to Mathew Sinesi, MD, Medical Director. “That coupled with the personal touch and outreach services patients receive from our team helps them heal better. Having a cancer center that offers all of this in Chesapeake, where our patients live, makes treatment easier and outcomes better for them and their families.”
