Chesapeake Regional Receives Second Consecutive National Award for Orthopedic Care

CHESAPEAKE – Chesapeake Regional Medical Center (CRMC) has earned a 2015 Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics for a successive year.

In 2014, The National Osteoporosis Foundation reported that a woman’s risk of hip fracture is equal to her combined risk of breast, uterine and ovarian cancer (NOF 2014, “What Women Need to Know”). The Women’s Choice Award identifies America’s Best Hospitals in Orthopedics to address the growing need for disease prevention and bone and joint care.

“Chesapeake Regional Medical Center is committed to providing the women in our community with the very best care,” said Peter F. Bastone, Dr.PH, president and CEO of CRMC. “We are honored to receive our second Women’s Choice Award in orthopedics as we continue to focus on the medical needs of women and their families and enhance our orthopedics program with innovative technology and physician partnerships.”

Hospitals qualify as an America’s Best Hospital for Orthopedics based on an in-depth proprietary scoring process, utilizing data reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. As one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics, CRMC was selected due to their excellent rating in areas such as post-treatment complications, patient recommendation ratings, availability of microscopic surgery and adequate post-surgical care.

“Being treated with the proper level of care impacts one’s health, well-being and healing, so it is critical for women to know those hospitals that have demonstrated the highest level of quality care to their patients, with a special focus on the female experience,” said Sharyn S. Lee, RN, MS, FACEHP, president of the Healthcare Division of the Women’s Choice Award. “When patients have a highly engaged, positive experience with their hospital, it’s a win-win situation.”

According to a study by the National Research Corporation Market Insights Survey, the largest health care consumer survey in the U.S., a hospital’s reputation is everything.  Being recognized as a hospital of choice among women takes the commitment of leadership and staff and ongoing devotion to providing every patient with optimal care. The Women’s Choice Award is a beacon to women, demonstrating that CRMC has met rigorous criteria for clinical best practices and earned higher than average patient recommendation and satisfaction scores. Women can then trust the hospitals that carry the Women’s Choice Award seal, as they enable her to simplify her selection process.

“A woman expects more from a hospital experience and takes her role as the primary healthcare decision maker seriously,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award. “More than ever she is self-managing her care by choosing her hospital prior to selecting her doctors. This allows her more control over her hospital stay outcome based on the quality of care she can expect from a Women’s Choice Award hospital.”
