Ceremony and Flag Raising Held to Honor Organ Donors and Recipients

Chesapeake, Va.– Today, Chesapeake Regional celebrates Donate Life Month by honoring donors, their families, and physicians with guest speakers and a flag raising of the Donate Life flag, a national symbol of unity, remembrance, and hope that honors those touched by organ donation and transplantation.

A donor family and physician will share their emotional experiences. Both will share heartfelt moments when care shifts from saving a patient’s life to giving the gift of life through organ donation. Both will remind the community about the importance of organ donation while paying tribute to the generosity of organ donors.

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center achieved the highest status, Platinum, in the OrganDonor.gov 2024 DoNation Campaign, educating hospitals and their surrounding communities about organ, tissue and eye donation. LifeNet Health, Chesapeake Regional’s partner in organ procurement, will present the award during the morning celebration.

Since 2014, Chesapeake Regional has saved 90 lives by collaborating with LifeNet Health.

Chesapeake Regional 2024 Donation Statistics:
•    5 organ donors
•    7 organs gifted (some recipients received multiple organs)
•    7 lives saved
•    16 tissue donors
•    621 referrals for potential organ, tissue, or eye donors
