Chesapeake Regional's Nurse Magnet Journey Begins with Virtual Kickoff Friday

CHESAPEAKE REGIONAL’S NURSE MAGNET JOURNEY BEGINS WITH VIRTUAL KICKOFF FRIDAY

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Nursing at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare will begin its journey to achieve Magnet® status accreditation during a virtual kickoff on Friday. What is typically an organizational-wide celebration prior to sending the application of intent is going to be very different for Chesapeake Regional due to restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of an in-person gathering, one representative from every unit will participate in a Zoom meeting. Additionally, baskets containing tools, puzzles and promotional items to celebrate will be distributed to each nursing unit and signs have been made to hold up during the celebratory conference call.

The process of applying for Magnet designation is thorough and lengthy. It requires widespread participation within the organization during the self-assessment, creating opportunity for organizational advancement and team building. Earning Magnet status is an acknowledgement of excellence in nursing care awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

“We look forward to beginning the journey and completing the application process,” explained Amber Egyud, DNP, RN, NE-BC, Chesapeake Regional’s Chief Operating & Nursing Officer. “It’s an intensive process but I know our team will rally, respond and achieve Magnet designation,” she added.

After reviewing the gap analysis every 6-8 months and submitting the required documentation, the final application is expected to be submitted October 2021. It will be reviewed by the Magnet appraisers, and if approved, Chesapeake Regional expects a planned site visit and designation in 2022.

The Commission on Magnet Recognition will review the final report submitted by the appraisal team and notify Chesapeake Regional Healthcare of their decision. The Commission designates Magnet Recognition for a period of four years after which organizations may re-apply for designation to continue.
