The Registered Dietitians at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, Lifestyle and Wellness have 98 years of combined experience in providing medical nutrition therapy for a wide variety of diseases and/or medical conditions. One of their specialty areas is the assessment, counseling, and educations for clients seeking bariatric (weight loss) surgery and/ore those who have had bariatric surgery. Their philosophy is to meet their clients where they are on their weight loss journey focusing on both group support and individualized care that is safe, healthy and realistic. Changing behavior and lifestyle habits can be difficult, especially when they relate to food and nutrition. It is important to our team to provide support and guidance to our clients in making lifelong changes.

Bariatric Nutrition Counseling

Nutrition counseling analyzes your personal health needs and makes recommendations based off exercise and eating habits and can be beneficial for anyone, especially those with diabetes. Counseling sessions are conducted by Registered Dietician Nutritionists, experienced in medical nutrition therapy and health education. Sessions are held on an individual basis. Family members are encouraged to attend when appropriate. Counseling includes three components:

  • Assessment of individual health including current dietary intake, exercise patterns and lifestyle habits
  • Goal setting to determine achievable health outcomes as well as body composition expectations
  • Establishing an action plan to implement appropriate lifelong dietary changes. Action plans are tailored to each client
