2018 Healthgrades Five-Star Awards For Cardiac, Neurosciences, Bariatrics and Critical Care

2018 Healthgrades Five-Star Awards For Cardiac, Neurosciences, Bariatrics and Critical Care

CHESAPEAKE – Chesapeake Regional Healthcare recently achieved several Five-Star ratings from Healthgrades®, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in the region* to receive five stars in Defibrillator Procedures in 2018 by Healthgrades, and the only hospital in the Virginia to receive Five-Star Ratings in 2018 for the Treatment of Heart Failure, the Treatment of Stroke and Defibrillator Procedures together. The Treatment of Respiratory Failure and Overall Bariatric Surgery were also recognized with 2018 Healthgrades Five-Star designations.

The above-mentioned achievements are part of new findings and data released recently by Healthgrades and featured in the Healthgrades 2018 Report to the Nation. Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. **

“These awards are a by-product of our collective dedication and an achievement to be celebrated by our staff, our patients and our community,” said Reese Jackson, President & CEO of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare.

This is the second year Chesapeake Regional has received a Five-Star award for Bariatric Surgery and Heart Failure. In 2017, the hospital also earned a Bariatric Surgery Excellence Award and Five-Star awards for Vaginal Delivery and C-Section Delivery. Healthgrades recognized the hospital’s orthopedic programs in 2017 with Spinal Fusion Surgery and Spine Surgery Excellence Awards, naming Chesapeake Regional among the top 10% in the nation for spine surgery.

In 2017 Chesapeake Regional received the 2017 Patient Safety Excellence Award, recognizing the hospital as the top ten percent in the nation for Patient Safety.

“In an environment where consumers have more choices about where to receive their care, a hospital’s commitment to achieving high-quality outcomes is fundamental,” said Brad Bowman, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Because consumers place such value on this information, hospitals that achieve five stars stand out in their marketplace.”

*“Region” is Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News, VA-NC as defined by the federal government’s Office of Management and Budget.

**For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluate outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 17 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as five-star (statistically significantly better than expected), three-star (not statistically different from expected) and one-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
