The Jennings Outpatient Center Ultrasound Department is an ACR-accredited Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. In order to achieve this designation, the department first had to become accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, ultrasound and ultrasound biopsy. The facility has additional ACR accreditation in MRI and MRI breast biopsy, and is currently in the accreditation process for CT.
Chesapeake Regional's Radiology Department is accredited in both MRI and ultrasound by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services. As an ACR accredited group, you are assured that the department adheres to nationally-accepted standards for care, professionalism and safety.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR practice guidelines and technical standards following a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
Chesapeake Regional consistently followed the treatment guidelines in ACTION Registry®-GWTG™ for eight consecutive quarters in ACTION Registry-GWTG Premier and met a performance standard of 90% for specific performance measures to receive this 2014 award.
The Breast Center at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center has received the Women’s Choice Award for America’s Best Breast Center for 2014 - 2016. This award signifies that a facility has met national standards, scored above-average on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services patient satisfaction measures and demonstrated exceptional service in meeting the needs of women. The Sydney M. Oman Cancer Treatment Center at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center has received both the 2014 and 2015 Women’s Choice Award for America’s Best Hospitals for Cancer Care. This award signifies that a facility has met the comprehensive cancer care standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and has achieved excellence in clinical performance with regard to cancer care measures. Chesapeake Regional Medical Center is the only facility in the south Tidewater area to be designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) by the American College of Radiology. This prestigious designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the ACR’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program. The Breast Center is the region's only facility accredited by the American College of Radiology's Breast MRI Accreditation Program, which recognizes the highest level of image quality and patient safety available. The Breast MRI Accreditation Program provides facilities performing breast MRI procedures with peer review and constructive feedback on their staff's qualifications, equipment, quality control, quality assurance, safety policies and image quality.
ComfortCare is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations. ComfortCare Hospice is also a member of the Virginia Association of Hospices and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
Chesapeake Regional Chest Pain Center is fully accredited with PCI from the Society of Chest Pain Centers. To earn the designation, nationally recognized experts visited Chesapeake Regional to verify that heart attack patients are receiving the most advanced and best possible care. The society has strict criteria and only accredits those facilities that closely follow the American College of Cardfiology and American Heart Associations recommendations to improve and save lives.
Chesapeake Regional has received The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get with the Guidelines® – Resuscitation Gold Quality Achievement Award. CRMC implemented specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer cardiac arrest in the hospital.
Chesapeake Regional Medical Center has earned the Primary Stroke Seal of Excellence from the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program. Primary Stroke Centers have the capacity to stabilize and treat acute stroke patients. They provide initial, acute care and administer tPA and other acute therapies safely and efficiently.

The Breast Center at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center has received a three-year accreditation and high praise for the comprehensive care it provides breast cancer patients. The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons, found The Breast Center fully compliant in all 27 standards the national organization rates.
The diabetes/nutrition program at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center's Lifestyle Center has received national recognition by the American Diabetes Association for being a quality diabetes education program since 1991. To help you learn how to manage your diabetes, we offer individual counseling with certified diabetes nurse educators and dietitians, group diabetes education classes called "Diabetes University" and carbohydrate counting classes. To enroll, your physician must fax or call a referral, or you may contact us yourself. Participation will require a referral from your physician and this program is usually covered by insurance. Cooking classes using our full teaching kitchen helps you learn to cook delicious foods that meet your individual health goals, including diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and weight control. We also offer diabetes support groups and camps for children with diabetes.
The Jennings Outpatient Center and Chesapeake Regional Medical Center Ultrasound Departments have each been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in ultrasound as the result of an extensive review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Ultrasound imaging, also known as sonography, uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal body parts to help providers diagnose illness, injury or other medical problems.
ComfortCare's Hospice program has achieved Partner Level Four with We Honor Veterans, a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). It surprises many Americans to learn that 25 percent of all deaths in the US are Veterans. That's 1,800 people a day; more than 680,000 Veterans every year. These heroic Americans deserve recognition for their military service- particularly at the end of life's journey.
